Orjaku Harbour is located near to a Käina Bay – Kassari Landscape Protection Area. It is a naturally pleasant area with hiking trails, bird watching possibilities and also a popular summer destination for locals and visitors. Orjaku has been a fishing spot since as early as the 17th century. In 1912, the Russian government started construction works to turn the harbour into a naval base for the mine laying fleet of the Imperial Russian Navy. Long breakwaters are still stating this.
During summer months, there is a popular restaurant iiUmekk (try to make your reservation well ahead!) and Visitor Centre with a small gift shop open at the harbour. In Orjaku you may enjoy delicious food and get acquainted with exhibitions, purchase local handicrafts, use the public internet, and get tourist information about Hiiumaa sights and events.
